Objective
Lower heart rates with an easy walking lap while players reflect on what worked and what they will fix, so the lesson of the session leaves the field with them.
Set-up
Four cones marking a rectangle around the practice area, roughly 40x60 yards. Players in pairs, one ball per pair, spaced 10 yards apart around the perimeter.
How it runs
- Pairs walk the perimeter, passing the ball back and forth with the inside of the foot every few steps.
- Side 1: each player tells their partner one thing they did well today.
- Side 2: one thing they would do differently.
- Side 3: one thing a teammate did that helped them.
- Side 4: swap partners at the corner cone and share your partner's 'do differently' answer with your new partner. The coach collects two or three answers at the end.
Coaching points
- Walk slowly; the body is recovering.
- Soft passes, two touches, no sprinting for a loose ball.
- Be specific: 'my first touch under pressure' beats 'I played okay'.
- Listen more than you talk on side 3.
Common mistakes
- Pairs walk in silence because the questions feel awkward; give the questions in writing on a cone card at each corner until the habit forms.
- Players sprint the lap to finish first; there is no finishing first here.
- The coach skips the share-out and the reflection dies; collect at least two answers before the group leaves.
Progressions
- Add a fourth question tied to the next game's opponent.
- Pairs must complete 20 passes per side.
- Captains collect the 'do differently' answers and report them to the coach.
Regressions
- Remove the ball and simply walk and talk.
- Two questions instead of three.
- Coach asks the questions aloud from the middle.
Constraints
- Walking only; anyone jogging restarts their lap.
