Objective

Possession with territorial purpose — switching and progressing through marked corridors under full pressure.

Set-up

Half pitch with two vertical lines splitting it into thirds. 7v7 (or 6v6) keep-away.

How it runs

  1. Normal keep-away scoring: 8 consecutive passes = 1 point.
  2. Bonus: a completed pass that crosses BOTH lines (a full switch) scores 2 points instantly.
  3. A pass that crosses one line into the middle and is then played forward again scores 1 bonus.
  4. Play to 10; losers set up the next game.

Coaching points

  • Possession earns the switch — draw the press to one side before releasing it.
  • The far-side player stays wide and alive: their positioning IS the bonus.
  • Switches need a receiving picture: who's beyond the far line before the pass leaves?
  • Counting passes keeps tempo; chasing bonuses creates direction.

Common mistakes

  • Teams chase only pass count and ignore the corridors — re-state the scores: switches win games.
  • The switch is attempted from a crowded touchline — work it inside first, then release.
  • Far-side players drift inside and kill the space the bonus needs — width is a discipline.

Progressions

  • Bonus passes must be below head height.
  • Add two neutrals to make switches easier, then remove them.
  • Limit the middle third to two touches.

Regressions

  • 6 passes per point.
  • One bonus line only.
  • Bigger pitch for more time on the ball.

Constraints

  • The far receiver must control the switch cleanly for the bonus to count.
