Objective

Sharpen one-touch finishing and the movement to attack a served ball, with volume and tempo.

Set-up

Two feeder stations either side of goal with balls; a striker makes a run to meet each serve in turn.

How it runs

  1. Striker checks away then darts to meet a low serve from the left station and finishes first time.
  2. Immediately spins to attack a serve from the right station and finishes again.
  3. Quick, continuous reps; rotate striker after two rounds.
  4. Servers replenish balls fast to keep the carousel turning.

Coaching points

  • Make a sharp checking run to lose your marker before the serve.
  • Open your body to the ball and the goal.
  • Decide your finish early — side-foot placement over power.
  • Reset your feet instantly for the next ball.

Common mistakes

  • Players take a touch when the drill demands first time — lower the service quality excuse: better service, no touch.
  • Strikers stand waiting on their heels — feet alive, arrive at the ball moving.
  • Service becomes the weak link — rotate servers and hold them to a standard.

Progressions

  • Higher serves for volleys.
  • Add a passive defender.
  • Compete: most goals in 90 seconds.

Regressions

  • Allow two touches.
  • Slower serves.
  • One station only.

Constraints

  • First-time finishes only.
