Phase of Play — Build-Up Under Pressure

Back four plus CDM and one CM build out from the goalkeeper against a 2-man press. The goal is to play through the press and reach a target player on the halfway line within 10 seconds. GK must always be involved as an option.

• Novak and Carter: split wide to give the GK angles — don't bunch in the centre
• Hartley: drop between the CBs to receive if needed, then spin and face forward
• GK Reyes: be brave with distribution — long switch is on if the press overloads one side

• Increase the press to 3 players to force the GK long more often
• Add a condition: Novak must play out with his weak foot before progress is allowed
