Theme

Technical

Duration

20 min

Players (min–rec–max)

4–4–4

Equipment

balls, cones

Set-up

Both GKs work simultaneously at opposite ends. Feeder plays a back-pass with a forward pressing from 20 yards. GK must distribute under a time constraint — three seconds from receiving the back-pass. Mix of short distribution to a cone target and driven long balls to a wide zone. Eight reps each.

Coaching points

  • Body position on approach to the back-pass — open body to play quickly
  • Communicate to the back-pass player to manage their expectation of the distribution
  • Don't panic — three seconds is enough if your technique is right

Progressions

  • Bring the pressing forward to 15 yards to increase pressure on the distribution
  • Add a second pressing player coming from a different angle
