Objective
Develop close control, changes of direction and 1v1 dribbling confidence in a fun, competitive game.
Set-up
Scatter 6–8 small gates (two cones each) randomly around an 18x18 area. Pair players up, one ball each pair, in a 1v1.
How it runs
- Score a point by dribbling the ball through any gate and stopping it under control on the other side.
- You cannot score through the same gate twice in a row, so you must keep moving.
- Most points in 60 seconds wins; the other player defends and tries to win the ball.
- Swap pairs each round to face different opponents.
Coaching points
- Head up to spot the open gates and the defender's position.
- Use little touches in tight areas, big touches into space.
- Sell a feint — drop a shoulder, then explode the other way.
- Protect the ball with your body when the defender closes in.
Common mistakes
- Players dribble with their head down and run into traffic — little touches, eyes up between touches.
- One favourite move gets repeated every time — require a different gate or different skill each round.
- Defenders give token pressure — make winning the ball worth a point so they defend for real.
Progressions
- Add a second defender chasing the ball.
- Gates only count if you use a skill move to beat your man first.
- Add a time bonus for back-to-back gates.
Regressions
- One ball each, no defender — beat your own best score.
- Make the gates wider.
- Walk through it first to learn the rules.
Constraints
- No scoring through the same gate twice in a row.
