Set-up

Split time 15 minutes corners, 15 minutes free kicks. For corners: two deliveries — near-post flick-on (Navas delivers, Dougherty and Humphrey attack first and second post) and a short corner routine with an overlapping runner. For free kicks: direct attempt from Navas at 22 yards, plus a two-man wall-run routine. Walk through, then live reps at moderate pace.

Coaching points

  • Corner delivery must be to a zone, not a man — the runner finds the ball, it doesn't find them.
  • Near-post runner must time the run to arrive as the ball does — early and you're a cone.
  • On the short corner, the second man must check away before checking back for the give-and-go.

Progressions

  • Add a passive defensive line to the corners so runners must adjust timing against opposition.
  • Practice defending corners from our own set piece shape — half the squad defends while the other attacks.
