Split into two phases

Theme

Set_pieces

Duration

15 min

Players (min–rec–max)

10–10–10

Equipment

5 balls, 1 full goal, cones

Set-up

Split into two phases. Phase one: attacking team practises one set free-kick routine from twenty yards — two players on the ball, one shoots, one dummies. Phase two: defending team builds their wall and covers second-ball positions. Switch groups after five reps each.

Coaching points

  • Wall players: stand shoulder to shoulder, don't leave gaps, and don't flinch
  • The player not shooting: your dummy has to be convincing or it's useless
  • Defenders behind the wall: watch the ball, not the wall

Progressions

  • Run both phases together — attacking routine against the live defensive setup
  • Move free kick to a wide angle; now the routine changes — driven ball across instead of a shot
