Set-up
Eleven defenders hold a low block against eleven attackers who are given the ball in various positions around the box. When the ball is won, defenders exit with a clear pass to the wide player, who drives forward. Three-minute periods with reset. Focus on the moment of recovery — winning the ball and immediately changing mode.
Coaching points
- Low block trigger: when they play into the striker's feet, the CDM steps and the forwards squeeze
- Don't defend on your heels — light on your toes, engaged and connected
- Exit pass: the moment the CB wins it, the full-back is already moving to receive it wide
Progressions
- Increase the number of attackers to thirteen to overload the block and test its structure
- Add a condition: if the defending team does not exit successfully within five seconds, they reset and hold the block again
