Set-up

Three throw-in zones marked (defensive third, middle third, attacking third). Two-player combinations rehearsed for each zone: the receiver makes a near-run, the third man takes the actual return. Then goal kick build practiced: short GK option to CB who plays into CDM vs. long ball option to a flick-on target. Run sequences at match pace.

Coaching points

  • Throw-ins are possession — treat them like a free kick, not a panic
  • Goal kick short option: we need bodies in the right spots before the ball is placed — show each other where you'll be
  • Dev and Victor: these roles require spatial awareness — you're not just receivers, you're connectors

Progressions

  • Add defenders to throw-in zones to test the patterns under light pressure
  • Goal kick long option: target player must control and play a combination within two touches
